This year at the Edmonton Scottish Society Highland Gathering we are proud to offer a selection of Whisky's from around Scotland at our tasting.
The tasting will occur in an inflatable Pub. Tickets available on our Event Page or on the day at our Beer Gardens.
The Tasting is for 6 Whisky's, cost $30.00
The Tasting with an Etched Edmonton Scottish Society Whisky Glass is $40.00

Tasting takes place from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m

New for the 2024 Whisky Tasting

The 2024 Highland Gathering Whisky Tasting is presenting a new format. This years Tasting will be a sit down tasting in our inflatable pub.

The final tasting of the day will be a Blind Tasting. You find out what you have when it is presented to you. See below for more information and tickets.

Sit down tasting times will be 1 hour per tasting.

The mission of the Alberta Scotch Society is to promote the responsible enjoyment of Scottish Whisky. We do this through scotch tastings, dinners, social events, after work, relaxing, and just about anywhere that is appropriate to enjoy a fine whisky.

2024 Highland Gathering Whisky Tasting

This years tasting will be a sit down/stand up tasting at tall round bar tables in our blow up pub.

There will be 6 Whisky offering at 1/2 oz pour. Dolph Shaw will walk you through the tasting.

The tastings will take approximately 1 hr depending ofn questions and involvement.

We are in the process of carefully selecting the Whisky for our tasting.

The last tasting of the day will be a blind tasting and one of our guests at the blind tasting is going home with a bottle from that tasting.

All participants will be entered into draws for gifts after the tastings are all complete.

Glen Scotia VICTORIANA SINGLE MALT SCOTCH WHISKY

Winner of ‘Best in Class’ No Age Statement Single Malt Scotch Whisky 2022. Our Victoriana single malt pays homage to our distilling craft which dates back decades, as a modern interpretation of a classic Victorian style Campbeltown single malt. Matured in a combination of first and second fill bourbon barrels, then finished in PX and heavily charred oak casks, providing a rich layer of flavours.

The GlenAllachie 15-year-old

This spectacular Scotch whisky embodies our unwavering dedication to obtaining Sherry wood of the highest standard. A watchful eye throughout the maturation journey ensures the whisky is bottled at its optimum.

With an intense mahogany hue, this single malt exudes sheer indulgence with layers of cinnamon, orange zest, vanilla toffee and dark chocolate.

CRAIGELLACHIE 13 YEAR OLD

Craigellachie 13 Year Old evokes Bonfire Night: aromas of oozing toasted marshmallows, fire-roasted pineapples and baked apples studded with cloves, with the tang of cordite lingering in the background.

Machrie Moor Cask Strength Single Malt

The classic fresh Arran Single Malt character with a puff of peat smoke. This Single Malt produced at Lochranza Distillery is some of the original, very first peated Single Malt that we produced on the island.

Fèis Ìle 2024: 14 Year Old Ruby Port Cask Finish

Released to celebrate Fèis Ìle 2024, this 14 Year Old limited edition was matured in Bourbon casks for 11 years then transferred into Ruby Port Hogsheads for a 3 year finish. Robust notes of cherries, dark chocolate and berries dominate, leading into a lingering, spicy finish.

Bladnoch Vinaya

Matured in a unique combination of 1st fill Bourbon and 1st fill Sherry casks for notes of fresh apple, sweet floral grass and hints of chocolate. ‘Vinaya’, a Sanskrit word meaning respect and gratitude, pays homage to the original founders of the distillery who paved the way, as Bladnoch looks forward to an exciting new era of production and innovation.

The Last Whisky Tasting of the Day is a BLIND Tasting

No you will not be blindfolded. The Blind Tasting means we are not going to tell you what you are tasting until it is in front of you. If you think the regular tastings earlier in the day have some special Whisky, wait till the BLIND. Tickets on our Events Page

A Passion for Whisky

Last year the Edmonton Scottish Society was pleased to have Douglas Liang & Co. provide 6 of their Remarkable Regional Malts to our Whisky Tasting.
Established in 1948, Douglas Laing is a proudly independent, family owned Scotch Whisky business in its third generation. Over 70 years of heritage have helped us to refine our processes, and deliver Whisky that is consistently exceptional in its offering.

Abiding to the philosophy of presenting Whisky as the Distiller intended, we add nothing and take nothing away from our spirit, enabling Whisky lovers around the world to come as close as they possibly can to sampling a dram straight from the Cask.

If you loved the offerings from the Douglas Lang & Co Remarkable Regional Malts you can have some anytime you want. We have stock in the Pavillion Bar and they may make an appearance at this years Whisky Tasting. We are offering them at our Whisky tasting again this year before we select a completly new line up for 2024.

Past offerings from regions of Scotland

Tobermory 12 year

Bottled at 46.3% abv, with natural colour and non chill-filtered, the Tobermory 12 year old is the signature expression in the Tobermory core range.
Colour: Amber Gold

Nose: Rich fruit, orange and citrus notes, fresh floral hints and rich oak with vanilla and spice.

Palate: Sweet orange and citrus, creamy caramel and rich vanilla with spicy hints of cinnamon and clove.

Finish: Long and lingering vanilla and spice.

Aberlour 12 year old

The 12 year-old expression is a fine example of how the distinctively crisp, citrus character of Aberlour’s new distillate is deftly softened by double cask maturation. Traditional Oak and seasoned Sherry butts are both used to great effect, as the mellowed spirits within are combined to deliver a subtly balanced flavour

Dalwhinnie 15 year old

The flavours are simple, but flawless, a clean, crisp 15 year old from the Dalwhinnie Distillery
Nose: Aromatic, toffee, fruit salad, lush nectarine, custard. Floral, apple blossom, honeysuckle. Apple peels, pear, touch of smoke.

Palate: Malty. Walnuts steeped in manuka honey with vanilla sponge. Gentle smoke weaves its way through the cereal with a touch of spice.

Finish: Long, malty, walnut, almond.

Glenkinchie 12 year old

The flagship expression from the Glenkinchie distillery, one of the stalwarts of the Lowlands. A fantastic introduction to the region, Glenkinchie 12 Year Old shows off the characteristic lightness and grassy elements that Lowland whiskies are known for, with nods to cooked fruit and Sauternes wine along the way. Brilliant single malt to enjoy as an aperitif on a warm evening.
Nose: A light, aromatic nose with hints of barley malt, almonds, hazelnuts and manuka honey/beeswax.

Palate: Very fruity palate with a mix of stewed fruits, dessert wine, apple peels and honey. Becomes quite oaky late palate.

Finish: A medium-length finish with barley and freshly mown grass

Lochlea

Matured in a combination of ex-bourbon and ex-Oloroso sherry casks, as well as shaved, toasted and re-charred barriques, the whisky was bottled up without any added colour, or chill filtration.
Nose: Sweet, juicy fruit salad, a drizzle of honey, and sugared orange peel with soft notes of grassy malt beneath.

Palate: Buttered soda bread, crushed almonds, tinned peaches with chantilly cream. Prickles of peppery barley gently build.

Finish: A touch of maple syrup and nutty, toasted oak. Creamy layers of vanilla soften the spice.

Bunnahabhain 12 year

This 12 year old single malt Scotch whisky is a light, fresh dram, bottled at the higher strength of 46.3% - for more complexity and flavour.
Nose: Fresh, sweet. Seaweed, malt.

Palate: Soft, supple. Sherry, nutty. A little sweetness, malty, juicy sultana. Slightly coastal.

Finish: Sherried, mochaccino, herbal, balanced salty tang.
