Section Title

Tartan Design - Colours and Symbolism

The tartan design created incorporates colours of both recognised Scottish flags, silver of a pewter Quaich, charcoal tweed representing Scotland's world renowned original homespun fabric and the colour of three very symbolic fl ower s. The pink/purple in the tartan represents the colour of Scottish heather, thistle flowers - native to Alberta and Scotland, and the colour of the Alberta Wild Rose.

Two tartans have been designed, a standard pattern - dark like a hunting tartan, and a dress (or Arisaid) pattern with a white background. Colour and symbolism remains the same for both with a switch of black to white for the dress version of the tartan.
